Do you find yourself feeling constantly worried, stressed, nervous or unsettled? Are you experiencing these feelings more so than usual? You may be suffering from a little anxiety which is surprisingly a common issue with most people. Don’t let anxiety get the better of you. Here are five ways on how you can manage your anxiety which will lead you on the path to being a healthier and more mindful person.

  1. Meditation

Meditation is one of the best ways to de-stress the mind and body and to recharge your batteries. Some people tend to assume that the process of meditation is difficult to follow but it is a lot easier than you may think. Whether you’re a beginner who has never meditated before or a pro who has been meditating for a few years, there are a number of resources out there for people with all levels of meditation. Jump online and choose from a range of free guided meditation sessions such as The Free Mindfulness Project or download the Headspace or Calm meditation app, both available on the App Store or Google Play.

  1. Exercise

Exercise is not only helpful for anxiety but it is important for your health and body and should be included in your day-to-day routine. If you’re keen to get super fit and reach certain goals, then joining a gym might be the way to go. However if you’re not the athletic type or one for much exercise, why not try going on a long walk? Walking is another good way of keeping fit, a great stress reliever and helps clear your head.

  1. Hobby

Taking up a new hobby or doing something that you enjoy is a great way to boost your mood and will help you feel at ease. For those who like sport or making new friends, check out the sporting teams, or clubs and societies that are available in your local area. If you feel that taking time out for yourself is what you need, there are many hobbies to enjoy such as reading, writing, drawing, sowing or baking.

  1. Friends and Family

Spending time with your family or catching up for coffee with a friend is something that most people generally make time for on a regular basis. It is also a good time to share and discuss your issues and feelings to a family member or friend that you trust. Talking to someone with whom you have a close relationship and is an important part of your life means you don’t have to feel like you are on your own with managing your anxiety.

  1. Professional Advice

If you’re still struggling to deal with your anxiety, consider talking to a health professional, such as a counsellor or psychologist. If you feel uncomfortable talking to a professional face-to-face, there are a number of telephone support services such as MindSpot and ARCVIC. It may be confronting and scary at first but you will most likely find it to be a benefit rather than a burden. It is never too late to acknowledge and manage your anxiety.
